The New Challenge…

In March 2014, I saw a picture on Instagram that got my attention. It was a picture of a bike in the middle of the road and in the background there were a bunch of trees covering the road.  It was like a tunnel covered by trees. When I read their bio on Instagram, it was about a man on a bicycle riding 17,000 miles all for charity. He was riding from Alaska to Argentina.  It was a non-profit organization raising awareness & funds through cycling expeditions for projects concerning children & education.

Since the group of triathlon athletes I was training with decided to split, I felt the need to find a new motivation. I felt I needed a new challenge. Something with a bigger purpose. After seeing what this organization was doing to help children, it really inspired me and wanted to do the same! So, I contacted them and offered to help!

My plan was to ride 100 miles a week.  Raise $1 for every mile I ride and all the money raised will go to this organization. I initially wanted to match the same miles he was planning to ride, but sometimes things don’t go as planned!  The first day I decided to ride the miles for this organization, I had my bike accident. My first major accident.  I experienced my first ride to the ER in an ambulance.  I had a concussion, a broken nose, a broken elbow, two bulged disk in my Cervical spine and lower back and other minor injuries…
